KanQual keeps your qualitative work on your own machines. Transcripts, media, and coded files stay on local drives, and the project format is open so your data is never locked to one program.
All transcripts, media, and coded files remain on local drives you control. Nothing needs to leave your machine for KanQual to open and analyse a project.
Your files are the source of truth. The project is stored as ordinary files on disk, so you can back them up, version them, and inspect them without KanQual running.
Collaboration through shared files
Teams work on the same project through shared project files. Collaboration does not depend on a mandatory third-party cloud host, so you choose how and where the shared folder is kept.
Each collaborator works with the same underlying project files. Coding, memos, and categories are saved to those files so the team reads one shared record.
Open data formats
Projects use transparent, documented formats rather than proprietary containers. Your coded data can be read, exported, and reused outside KanQual, which protects research from file lock-in.
What everything is: transcripts are text files, media is kept as referenced files, and codes and memos are stored as plain records next to them.
Research data remains entirely under the ownership and custody of the researcher.— KanQual project principle
